GCAG's Roof & Envelope Consulting Team is led by two professionals accredited by RCI, Don Carlos and Ken Leggett.

RCI, Inc. is an international association of 2,800 professional consultants, architects, and engineers who specialize in the specification and design of roofing, waterproofing and exterior wall systems. RCI has developed and continues to administer professional registration programs for the roof and envelope industry, including the Registered Roof Consultant (RRC) and Registered Roof Observer (RRO) designations.

RRCs are independent roofing experts with industry-wide knowledge of materials performance and design requirements. They stand apart from suppliers, product manufacturers and contractors. There are fewer than 425 RRCs in the world. Registered Roof Observers (RROs)are roofing quality assurance observers who monitor the construction process to assure that roofing projects stay in compliance with approved construction drawings, specifications, and best-practice or warranty stipulated installation procedures.

Don Carlos, Registered Architect, NCARB, RRC, LEED AP

Don is a Registered Roof Consultant and a licensed architect. He brings over 30 years of combined design and construction experience to his professional practice.

As both a Registered Architect and a Registered Roof Consultant, he is licensed to provide roof envelope and building design services as well as facility assessment and consultation. He has provided over 200 roof/envelope assessments, over 125 roof/envelope designs, and over 150 roof/envelope designs/QC reviews including peer review. He has an in-depth knowledge of windloading, moisture migration within assemblies, expansion implications, and roofing industry standards.

Don is experienced in both low and steep slope roofing systems and has provided hundreds of roof and envelope assessments and designs for various clients. As an RRC, Don in required to maintain an annual continuing education program and stays current with developments in his field.

Ken Leggett, DD, ThD, RRC, RRO

Ken is a Registered Roof Consultant and a Registered Roof Observer accredited by RCI, Inc. To earn these designations, Ken has demonstrated verifiable levels of education, ethics and experience and has successfully completed challenging examinations for both credentials. He is experienced in roof design, assessment, testing, observation, documentation and reporting. He brings over 10 years of design and management experience to our team and has completed over 100 roof and envelope projects.

Ken is committed to continuing education in the roof & envelope field. He is an active member of the Executive Board of the Northern Gulf Coast Chapter of RCI. He also serves on several technical committees with RCI including a joint committee between the Florida and Northern Gulf Coast Chapter of RCI concerning review and updates to the current Florida Building Code and a Rooftop Quality Assurance Task Force charged with updating and rewriting a nationally-sponsored educational program to include current roofing issues and quality assurance practices. He also serves on the Technical Peer Review Board for Interface, RCIís Internationally published magazine. As a well-known teacher of Rooftop Quality Assurance, Ken is an authorized instructor of RCI sanctioned educational classes.

Roof and Envelope Expertise

GCAG is located in the Gulf Coast region of the United States, which combines some of the world's most challenging conditions to both roofs and envelopes. Conditions include hot temperatures, high solar radiation, rain fall amounts (up to 80 inches per year) and high wind speeds, including numerous hurricanes. We have a long history of designing successful applications in this climate and can apply our knowledge to locations throughout the U.S. and the world. We are also knowledgeable about northern climates with heavy snow loads, ice damming and freeze/thaw issues.
